Level 4 VTCT Certificate in Education and Training

Course Details

The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a 33 credit teaching qualification that develops practical teaching skills and through the optional units can prepare teachers to work in a wide range of contexts. This qualification may be helpful for those whose duties do not include the full range of teaching responsibilities, for example instructors or those who teach very small groups of learners.

Please note that completing the VTCT Certificate in Education and Training is not a requirement for joining the higher level Diploma and that suitable candidates may go straight on to the higher level.

This course is suitable for those who wish to begin a career in teaching in Beauty, Hairdressing or Barbering.  Our course is very different to other teaching courses as the emphasis is on the practical elements of teaching.  This course will enable you to design and teach courses in your area of expertise.

Where does the training take place?

Theory through online tutorials and 3 days classroom based.  Learners will prepare for their teaching practice sessions in the classroom and will be assessed by your tutor during their work placement.  All material for your qualification will be uploaded to an E Learning platform. This can be accessed from anywhere. All assignments and teaching observations  will be submitted through E portfolio.

Once payment has been made, instructions will be sent on how to access the course online.  Learners must have a certain amount of tutorials and assignments completed before the classroom based training.  Please note no refunds can be made once the online material has been accessed.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants need to be qualified, proficient or experienced in the subject which they intend to teach. It would be expected that applicants have sufficient personal skills to complete the academic and other requirements of the programme. They will also need to be able to support their learners at the appropriate level whilst delivering their subject specialism. Applicants need to demonstrate the potential to study at minimum academic level 4 – the same level of study as the first year of a degree course.

Learners must be computer efficient as the assessment material must be submitted through online portfolio.

Course Content

Unit 1: Delivering Education and Training

The aim of this unit is to enable you to use inclusive teaching and learning approaches in accordance with internal processes and external requirements, to communicate with learners and to evaluate own delivery practice. You will gain an understanding of how technology can enhance teaching and learning and covers expectations in relation to the minimum core in delivering inclusive teaching and learning.

Unit 2 – Understand Roles, Responsibilities & Relationships in Education & Training 

The aim of this unit is to enable you to understand the role and responsibilities of a teacher in education and training and the relationship between different professionals within education and training.

Unit 3: Assessing Learners in Education and Training

The aim of the unit is to enable you to use types and methods of assessment, to conduct and record assessment in accordance with internal and external processes and requirements and to evaluate your own assessment practice. You will cover the expectations in relation to the minimum core in assessing learners in lifelong learning.

Unit 4: Manage Learning and Development

The aim of this unit is to enable you to manage learning and development in groups. You are expected to understand the use of a variety of management methods, for example motivational strategies, behavior management, provision of advice as well as deliver strategies to facilitate learning. You are also expected to involve learners within groups in the learning and development process.

 Unit 5: Teaching in a Specialist Area

The unit aims to develop your knowledge and skills in relation to teaching in a specialist area. The specialist area may be a vocational or subject area. It includes consideration of the aims and philosophy of education and training in a specialist area and the aims and structure of key sector qualifications. It also includes curriculum issues, inclusive teaching and learning, and evaluating and improving your own practice in a specialist area.

Unit 6 – Planning to Meet the Needs of the Learners 

You will be able to agree individual learning goals with your learners, to plan inclusive learning and teaching approaches in accordance with internal processes and external requirements and to evaluate your own practice in planning teaching and learning.

Assessment

There is a requirement for a minimum of 30 hours of practice for this qualification with a minimum of 3 assessed observations.

  • Teaching Practice – 30 hours (15 hours teaching + 15 hours observing qualified tutor)

Progression

You can progress directly into employment as a teacher in the further education sector

On completion you may choose to undertake further study:

  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement – graduates of the Level 4 Teaching course will be awarded exemptions towards this course (Reduced price €350)
  • Level 4 Certificate in Leading Internal Quality Assurance
  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

Online: 22nd October, 19th November, 10th December, 18th February (2024)

Onsite: 21st January, 10th March (2024)

 

Theory delivered through online tutorials and classroom based.  Learners will prepare for their practical observations in the classroom and will be assessed during their work placement.  All assignments and portfolio work will be submitted through online portfolio.

Course Fees: €1850

A booking deposit is required to secure your place.  The balance is payable 7 days before the course starts. Access to online tutorials will be available to you once balance is paid..
