The VTCT Level 2 Award in Facial Massage and Skin Care (QCF) is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in; how to provide facial skin care. Underpinning this qualification you will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety practices in a salon environment and how to promote client care and communications in beauty related industries. You will also develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills in Aesthetic treatments to a high level of occupational ability, to enable you to perform your own salon services.
There are no formal pre requisite qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this qualification.
- Suitable for those with no previous qualifications who wish to work in the aesthetic industry.
- Suitable for Make Up artists with no formal Skin qualification
- The minimum age for entry to this course is 17 years – no exceptions. There is no upper age limit.
- An excellent level of English is required.
Provide Facial Massage and Skincare
In this unit you will learn about maintaining and improving facial skin condition using exfoliation, skin warming, comedone extraction, facial massage, mask treatments and facial moisturising products. This unit is predominantly hands on working on different skin types and learning how to recommend products and future treatments. All treatments are carried out using Image Skincare products.
Follow health and safety practice in the salon
The aim of this unit is to increase your understanding of health and safety and its importance in the salon in which you work. You will develop the ability to carry out a simple risk analysis, recognise a hazard, responsibly deal with the hazards you have found and follow safe and hygienic working practices. You will also need to be able to locate fire fighting equipment, first aid resources and have an awareness of fire, emergency and evacuation procedures.
Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
This unit is about client care and communication in beauty‑related industries. You will develop your communication skills to deal with consultations, complaints, client comfort and all forms of client care. You will develop a client‑centered approach to all your treatments.
For practical elements you will be observed by your assessor. All your work must be collected in a portfolio of evidence and cross referenced to requirements listed in your Assessment Book. An Internal Verifier will check your assessments to ensure evidence is valid. A VTCT External Verifier will sample observations and portfolios. Practical observations will be assessed as per unit listed above. Evidence of knowledge will be assessed through assignments.
A skincare kit, books and examination fees are all included in your fees. There are no extra costs.
You will be required to dress professionally in a therapist uniform for all classes. A white tunic and black trousers is preferable. Hair must be tied back and all nail enhancements and gel polish must be removed for classes.

This is an approved qualification for working as a beauty or aesthetic therapist. It also provides a sound platform for further learning or training. This qualification provides progression opportunities to the following VTCT qualifications:

- Level 4 Certificate in Laser & IPL
- Level 4 Diploma in Permanent Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation

Deposit €300 – Balance can be paid over 3 monthly instalments
