VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Access to Aesthetics

The VTCT (ITEC) Level 3 Certificate in Access to Aesthetic Therapies is a beauty therapy qualification aimed at learners with no formal background in beauty therapy training, who wish to gain access to additional study of advanced therapy treatments at levels 4 and above.

Throughout this qualification, learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of relevant health and safety requirements, anatomy, physiology, and pathology and electrical science, alongside skin analysis and safe practice treatment protocols for facial skin care. Learners will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to consult with clients, and provide specific aftercare and home care advice.

COURSE CONTENT

Skin Analysis and Facial Skincare

The aim of this unit is to enable learners to provide facial treatments to clients, working on the required areas of the face, neck and décolleté. Learners will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare for and provide professional treatments including an understanding of treatment indications, benefits and effects and possible contra-indications.

In this unit you will learn about maintaining and improving facial skin condition using a range of cleansing techniques, exfoliation, skin warming, comedone extraction, facial massage, mask treatments and facial moisturising products. You will also gain knowledge of skin analysis and diagnostic methodologies.

Consultation and Client Care

The aim of this unit is to understand the principles of client care when providing professional consultations prior to and following treatments. Learners will develop the knowledge and skills required to prepare for and carry out consultations, demonstrating a high standard of client care. Learners will further develop their communication skills and know how to identify and communicate realistic and appropriate treatment objectives.

Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology

The aim of this unit is to provide all of the necessary underpinning knowledge of anatomy and physiology to enable learners to understand the structure and function of the human body, in order that they might safely and confidently apply a range of health, beauty and aesthetic treatments.

This unit will also provide an introduction to common pathologies for each body system to assist the learners in identifying when and how a client may be contra-indicated to treatment.

  3. Be able to have knowledge of the muscular system
  4. Be able to have knowledge of the nervous system
  5. Be able to have knowledge of the endocrine system
  6. Be able to have knowledge of the respiratory system
  7. Be able to have knowledge of the cardiovascular system
  8. Be able to have knowledge of the lymphatic system
  9. Be able to have knowledge of the digestive system

Electrical Science

This unit will provide all of the necessary underpinning knowledge of electrical science to enable learners to understand the natural and physical science behind electrical beauty therapy treatments.

Maintain Health & Safety in the Salon

The aim of this unit is to enable learners to understand the principles of health and safety at work within a clinic. It introduces the key legislation and legal and regulatory factors that govern health and safety requirements and emergency procedures, and their importance in the hair and beauty workplace.

Learners will develop knowledge of how to recognise hazards and their associated risks, their limits of authority when dealing with the hazards found and how to follow, monitor and maintain safe and hygienic working practices. Learners will also need to know how to be able to locate firefighting equipment, first aid resources and have an awareness of fire, emergency and evacuation procedures and the role of the health and safety supervisor.

 

COURSE DURATION

The qualification is delivered through blended learning.  The practical elements of the course will be delivered onsite at the Academy.  Theoretical elements  are delivered through online tutorials with support from your tutor.  Skin Analysis and Facial Skincare tutorials must be started by 1st September.

PROGRESSION

This is an approved qualification for working as an Aesthetic therapist.  It also provides a sound platform for further learning or training. This qualification provides progression opportunities to the following qualifications:

  • Level 4 Certificate in Laser & IPL
  • Level 4 Diploma in Permanent Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation
  • Level 4 Certificate in Skin Peeling
  • Level 4 Certificate in Skin Needling

€1950

Deposit of €500 is required on booking and the balance can be paid in instalments.

 

FUNDING OPPURTUNITIES

This qualification is listed by QQI on the National Framework, and is eligible for TSG funding if you are in receipt of a Social Welfare payment. Please contact your local office for details.
